My Story
I am an author and playwright. I’ve published more than a dozen short stories in literary journals; two earned honors in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Contest. My plays, Levy’s Ghost, Shadow of the Valley, and Fourteen Days in July, have been produced in Baltimore, Maryland, and St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Radical Radiance of the Fishing Fly is my first published novel.
I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. I earned my Master’s in Writing (fiction concentration) from Johns Hopkins in 2003. In addition to my literary career, I have dedicated much of my professional life to
advancing global health, serving as an HIV/AIDS researcher at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and as a vaccine developer focused on tuberculosis prevention.
I live in North Bethesda, Maryland, with my wife, Frances Marshall.
